A New Zealand Argillite whale tail with engraved Koru, hand carved by Rueben Tipene. This is a finely crafted piece, carved from a beautiful smokey grey piece of Argillite Stone.

An exceptional carving representing the marvellous whale!

The whale is synonymous with friendship, loyalty, trust and kindness. They have quite some significance in Polynesian cultures. Here in New Zealand they are believed to be descendants of Tangaroa - the God of the Oceans. They are regarded as sacred and supernatural beings and are believed to provide guidance and protection.
