Gold vermeil is a traditional technique of plating sterling silver with gold that originated in 18th century France. All of our gold vermeil pieces are coated with 14 karat gold. Tarnishing of gold vermeil is natural and should be expected to occur due to various factors, including individual body chemistry, humidity in the environment, frequency of wear, and proper care.

To best preserve its appearance, remove vermeil jewelry before washing hands, bathing, showering, swimming, exercising, or applying perfume, hairspray, or lotion, as exposure to moisture or chemicals can accelerate tarnishing. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners such as alcohol or bleach. Instead, use a 100% cotton or microfiber cloth.
